The Focused Funders Program came out of a creative powerful idea by Dianne Yamashiro-Omi and Henry Ramos.
Every worthwhile philanthropic program deserves to have an insightful evaluation before conclusion, to know if it has or has not achieved its chosen philanthropic goals. Unfortunately, most of those careful, voluminous reports end up being door-stops. Unread. Unappreciated. And often ... useless.
Dianne and Henry decided to use the Evaluation line item to fund a video evaluation. Rather than a report no one read, they hired us to create a video evaluation for the purpose of showing what had occurred. Thus the funding Board could see for themselves where the $ had gone, and what it had done.
As a direct result, after viewing the video, the funding Board decided to double the $5 million initiative designed to sunset in 5 years. Instead, they continued it for another 5 years.
Needless to say, the participating organizations were very pleased with the video and what it had helped them to achieve.
