… begins from 1999 when we made The Story of Fathers and Sons.  We interviewed over 600 men and boys to choose the 40 whose stories and lives we would use in the television program.

The inevitable result was that we had far more material than we could ever use and some of that material was…

                absolutely

fantastically

great.

Then, with all this material in hand but before any editing had begun; to show sponsors what we had been getting on production,  we pulled some stuff into a selects reel – a series of short, single take with no cuts, perfect, on-camera bites of father-son truth telling, kick ass good monologues.  

It worked great for its purpose but in addition, it suggested a mood and a style and a film of it’s own.  

Sort of an anti-editing documentary, 

Just a series of sustained close-ups.

monologues 

no cuts.

with the power in the truthfulness of the person speaking.  

Words.  Memories.  The evocative landscape of the human face.  

Nothing more.  Nothing less.

For years I kept it in mind to make such a short film.  

11 years – we did.  Screened it at film festivals and found others felt the same as we did.

that this was cool thing.

So … we present this most straight forward of films to you.
