Closure & Compassion: Berkeley Public Schools Fund in the pandemic

March 2020.
The world shuts down.
COVID. Coronavirus.
A time of fear and uncertainty.
Yet, a group of citizens working together as BPSF - the Berkeley Public Schools Fund - knows what to do...
BPSF responds to the crisis of the COVID pandemic in the first days of the 2020 shut-down.
Like so many other places, the public school system of my home town shut down too. But this was Berkeley, Callifornia. Already in place was a strong and effective philanthropic organization whose entire mission was about improving and addressing the needs of the local public schools.
A dedicated group of citizens, parents, civic leaders and activists, they knew immediately they needed to pivot, to respond and to act. This pro bono short documentary video is about what they did. It was produced by Luna Productions for the Berkeley Public Schools Fund (BPSF) for their 2020 annual fundraiser event. So much happened in those early crisis-riddled months of the pandemic, including the all important annual in-person fundraiser for BPSF was cancelled. This video was an alternative, shared via link and on-line zoom event, with the goal of showing supporters and funders the amazing level of support by BPSF for parents, teachers, and students in our local public school system during those oh-so-scary initial months of the COVID pandemic – at crucial time when BPSF rose to the challenge of the brutal shock and desperate needs of the first 40 days of public school closure.
Since that time, BPSF has continued in their worthwhile work. After watching this video, we urge you to support them.
