One of several travel articles written for the LA Weekly in the 80's.
Tis is the only one i could find - an account of a marvelous street demonstration in Havana Cuba.
One other that i remember: the once-in-100-years festival and parade and funeral for the queen mother in Bangkok Thailand; attended by over 1 million Thai people ... and me.
Oh, maybe there was the piece on the Notting Hill Carnival in London, UK; an account of my stumbling into it, learning the special dance and clapping rhythm of the day ("how you learn dat, mon? You a white guy?"), scoring some good week and sharing it with my friends who i was staying with; white people too timid to go to the festival and entirely out of pot and thus ... extremely grateful for what was my unintended boldness.
Anyhow ... back to Cuba ...
